Principal's Message

Dear Warriors,
 

You’ve come here to my message page because you’re curious, engaged, and want to know what we’re about here at Centaurus. You’re seeking a sense of what we mean when we say: “You Belong Here”. 

You are the students, families, staff, and community members, however and whomever you are, in your interests, skills, and personal ideas of greatness. 

Belonging is about connection. Students need to feel connected to each other, socially; to the school, with Warrior pride and spirit; a trusted adult for mentorship; and to their learning for engagement and academic success. Connection is the first step to achieving at their highest potential.  

Belonging is about how we feel. In my office, a quote by Maya Angelou hangs on my wall. The quote states, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel". When students know that the community around them sees them as a valued part of the whole and that they are accepted and cared for, their potential becomes limitless.  

Belonging is finding your pathway, regardless of how challenging that pathway may be, and finding the resiliency and the grit to follow your dreams. As a faculty, we believe in the power of "yet", which if added to a simple phrase like "I don't know" becomes "I don't know yet". We believe in the power of "yet" because it breathes hope into us by fostering resiliency, and it opens pathways through barriers. It is about a growth mindset and the freedom to take risks in a safe and welcoming environment. 

Which is why Here is more than just our campus.

Here is being given space in our eyes and ears, minds and hearts, focus and efforts. It is to Belong in our time - our most precious resource - Here, now, with an acknowledgement of the past, towards the future You want.

Parents and Guardians Belong Here

So, you want to see all this in-person, in action, huh? In the wise words of Rumi, “what you seek is seeking you”... and I’d much rather meet and be with you in-person, too. My team and I are continually and intentionally creating ways to make this happen: 

SAC: Are you a parent that would like to get involved and meet other involved parents? Join SAC! We are a team that works with each other and the administration to make Centaurus a better place by reviewing budgets, driving school reform, and supporting parent engagement. Check the SAC Page for more information. 

Coffee with the Principal. These informal meetings are a space for parents and guardians can come together with me over coffee and donuts for conversations about what’s going on, what’s working, what’s not, why things are the way they are, and ways we might go about changing them. Come for as long as you’d like! Meetings will be held in the Fishbowl at Centaurus High on:

  • Friday, October 25 (9am-10am)
  • Friday, December 10 (9am-10am) 

FET: Our Family and Educators Together (FET) meetings are held once a month. These meetings are vital to our school’s continual partnership with our community, and provide a space that serves and prioritizes specifically our Latino families and members. It is a space of shared knowledge where we are continually learning how to best connect cultures. We also provide Tacos Ay Ay Ay and raffles! See our FET page for more information.  

Book Study: We are currently running a parent-teacher book study centered around the best-selling non-fiction The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. The book is about the negative impact of cell phones and social media on young minds. Here is a flyer we created with more information, and you can sign up here to participate. 

Mental Health Nights for Parents:  Our MHA team will be hosting a slew of events for parents to attend and develop their toolkits for mental health awareness. Check the Warrior Weekly for more information!
