Learning Outside of Centaurus

Complete a 5th year of High School but take college courses instead! 

ASCENT (Accelerating Students through Concurrent Enrollment) is a “5th Year Program” in which seniors remain enrolled in high school and take a year of college classes. To qualify, students need to have met all of their high school graduation requirements and have 9 credit hours of college-level courses prior to the end of their senior year.

Through the ASCENT program, BVSD pays the tuition for students to take a year of college courses at a community college after their senior year.  Students are responsible for payment of fees and books. If a student plans appropriately, they can complete that 5th year of High School with as much as two years of college paid for.

Boulder Universal is an online school where enrolled students have access to courses online that meet the same graduation requirements as the brick and mortar schools courses do. Students follow a weekly deadline schedule. Options include full time enrollment or a hybrid enrollment secondary to their primary school.

BVSD Online is a supplemental tuition-based program offering BVSD enrolled students the opportunity to take one to two additional courses along with their regular full-time enrollment. This program is available to any high school student. Courses provide students an opportunity to either catch-up on missing courses, improve grades of D or F, or get ahead with additional courses. Tuition is listed on the BVSD Online Course Cost Website.

Note that the BVSD Online Program is not a school and is not available to students who are not enrolled at a BVSD school. If you're interested in taking online classes, please make an appointment to speak with your counselor about it.

College Before Graduation allows students to earn college and high school credits simultaneously. At Centaurus, this means the opportunity to take courses at CU Boulder or at Front Range Community College. Students may significantly reduce their college expenses, increase the likelihood that they will complete college, and earn marketable workforce skills by taking college credit courses while in high school. BVSD offers a variety of ways for students to earn these free college credits.

Another resource is the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Website. All courses must be approved by the student's high school principal and counselor.

BVSD students may use this FREE program to fulfill the money management graduation requirement without taking a semester or yearlong course in school. EVERFI

BVSD SUMMER LEARNING

Students can enroll in the Boulder Valley Summer School Program to make up course deficiencies or to enrich their learning experience. Enrollment materials are available in May on the BVSD Summer Learning High School Website.

During the summer, students have an opportunity to take classes through BVSD Online to either catch-up on missing courses, improve grades of D or F, or get ahead with additional courses.  Tuition is listed on the BVSD Online Course Cost Website.
